First up, apologies for the misleading heading to the last brief newsletter which in fact had nothing at all to do with Work Shadowing but muggins had forgotten to change the subject. What do you expect from someone who today also managed to send out a timetable . . . for last year's Pro Bono event. Oh dear! They shoot horses don't they?

Briefly (as I have not had time to do the write up I was supposed to do) may I thank all of you who supported the disco at the end of April and especially your Chair, Andrew, for a sterling job behind the mixing desk. I am reliably informed by my blackmailer that there are lots of photographs of the evening - including the surprise guest, Mr Elvis Presley - so I will try to get these on to the web site in due course.
I was advised by some of those present that a Karaoke night would be welcome. If there is sufficient interest (and anyone can suggest a suitable location and karaoke supplier) we'd be happy to arrange this so please let me know.
A reminder about the our Pro Bono event which is in a fortnight. Take up of the LawCare seminar by members has been disappointing but details were included in this week's BDLS newsletter so places are likely to disappear. If you would like to come along please let me know as soon as possible.
The event will be attended by John Wells, our current President, Philip Partridge and Sandra Barton, both past Presidents, as well as other representatives of Ilex, the DCA, LawWorks and the Bar Pro Bono Unit. It also sees the launch of a local Pro Bono service developed, instigated and run by the branch so support from the membership would be very welcome; especially volunteers to be part of the Pro Bono service. And if you're wondering what would be involved, then come along for a free lunch and find out!
Another local firm is looking for a junior conveyancer. Would need to be able to handle their own case load but will be part of a team so will have support. This is a different post to the one mentioned last time so if you enquired about that but were not interested, you may prefer this one! Please contact me if you are iinterested.
