ILEX, Bournemouth & District Branch Newsletter 21 October 2006 It has been an embarrassingly long time since the last newsletter for which I must apologise. Many excuses but they are all depressingly familiar and boring so I will not inflict them on you. Sorry is about the best I can do.
First of all a very warm welcome to all our new members and thank you for your support. I hope you find the branch of some use and please let me know if there is anything we can do for you. All ideas, however weird or wonderful are welcome.
An ideal opportunity for new members to meet old(er) ones and vice versa is our Halloween Curry Night (Halloween being a big issue in India and Pakistan of course . . .). Arrangements have been made for this take place at Spice, which is opposite the Civic Centre. A flyer is available here. This is a subsidised event so for the ludicrously low price of £5 a head all comers will be get a 3 course meal with only your drinks to worry about. Please would you contact me to book places?
Tickets for the Dinner are being snapped up like the proverbial hot cakes. As of now, 322 places have been booked but we can fit a few more in so if you want to come to the biggest and best event ever to take place on 8 December 2006 in Bournemouth but have not yet booked then please send in your booking form as soon as possible. Rooms should still available at the Hotel; quote ILEX to get a special price and ensure you do not have to worry about getting home when the dancing finally stops.
Offering a quieter but no less enjoyable and arguably better gastronomic experience, please join us for Sandra's famed American Supper which will take place in New Milton. You will need to bring something to eat and drink but it is otherwise free. Besides being a very pleasant informal gathering, it is also the best way to get to sample Sandra's desserts that are to die for. No, honestly, people have killed to try to get the recipes. Well, they have asked in a really firm tone of voice anyway.
To dispel the post Christmas blues, we intend to have a Ten Pin Bowling evening in January. As some of you may know, Tower Park has recently been refurbished and now offers a much better environment with brand new lanes, a large and more open bar area and a much brighter feel. For those who have not been to a branch bowling night before, be warned that this is not a boring top score competition. Your ever thoughtful secretary has shamelessly pinched someone else's idea to make the game a bit more fun and enable those of us, sorry I mean those of you, who don't get strikes every frame to compete on a more level playing field (well, lane I suppose . . .). Please let me know now if you are interested (children will be very welcome and are guaranteed a special but undoubtedly unhealthy prize) and I will issue more details nearer the time.
Following the latest intake of new members (is it only me who now always think 'noo' members?) a new round of shadowing assignments was issued a week or so ago. If you did not get an email, it is because we have fewer hosts than shadows so your turn will come in due course. If any one is willing to be a host, please let me know, as demand for shadowing is high. I will shortly be issuing a new list of everyone who has asked to be put in contact with other students. This will take the form of a global email to you all containing basic contact information; name, email address, firm (if appropriate) and location. If you would like me to include more information (such as subjects and level) then I will need you to email me those details and I will add them to the register. I'd particularly like to hear form those doing correspondence courses as, if there is demand, we could try to set up study groups which the branch could host and even perhaps have someone there to lad discussions or help with problem topics. Let me know if that would be of interest.
Finally, as you will hopefully have noticed by getting here, the branch website has managed to escape from the coat tails of my firm and is now alive and kicking on its own space. Very special thanks are due to QED Recruitment of Wimborne for their generous support on this front as well as to our ISP, yMonda, who have generously discounted their normal charges and given acres of time and support on the techie side. The move has led to a change in the look and feel of the site and feedback would be appreciated along with any ideas about other information, links or services that we could add. Thank you for your continuing support and hope to see you soon Nick View My Stats |
